Sally Champagne of Harvard and Martin Walsh of Stanford were here this evening telling us about their respective institutions and then taking questions (and asking a few). سالي الشمبانيا مارتن من جامعة هارفارد وستانفورد والش من هنا هذا المساء باخبارنا عن مؤسساتهم وثم اخذ الاسءله (والسؤال قليلة). I was therefore pleased by the difference I heard this evening; it just goes to show how an impression can linger long after one individual’s ‘off day’ has passed. ذلك كنت مسروره الفرق سمعت هذا المساء ؛ أنها تذهب فقط الى اظهار كيف يمكن ان نطيل انطباع بعد مضي وقت طويل على واحد فرد 'من يوم' قد انقضى.

Champagne started by saying her school was sometimes seen as a victim of the “terrible toos” –”Too expensive, too far from home, too hard to get into.” I’d never heard of Cambridge / East Coast being too far from home, but that must be because 10 miles from downtown. شامبانيا بدأت بالقول مدرستها كانت في بعض الاحيان ينظر اليها على انها ضحيه "الرهيب toos" -- "باهظه الثمن ، وبعيدا عن المنزل ، من الصعب جدا ان ندخل." انا لا يسمع كامبردج / الساحل الشرقى يجري ايضا بعيدا عن الوطن ، ولكن يجب ان يكون لان 10 اميال من وسط المدينة.

Fun fashion watch: John Yoshida, class of 2008, was wearing a Princeton t-shirt! متعة مشاهدة الموضه : جون يوشيدا ، من الطبقة 2008 ، وكان يرتدي قميصا قطنيا برينستون! This was much joked about, and I think by the end he was regretting his decision. هذا هو منكت عن الكثير ، وأعتقد بحلول نهاية اعرب عن الاسف قراره. It was Walsh’s first time outside of California, apparently–he was San Francisco born and bred, and touched my heart by mentioning the similarities between the “bay area” and the “bay state” –although he was doing so in reference to Harvard, not my life. وكان والش للمرة الاولى خارج ولاية كاليفورنيا ، على ما يبدو - كان من مواليد سان فرانسيسكو وتكاثر ، وتطرق قلبي بذكر أوجه التشابه بين "منطقة خليج سان فرانسيسكو" و "خليج الدولة" - على الرغم من انه كان يفعل ذلك في اشارة الى هارفارد ، ليست حياتي.

Martin Walsh went right afterward. مارتن الش ذهب بعد ذلك الحق. I asked the same interdisciplinary question of Champagne that I had back in March (trouble with big, excellent science departments inhibiting interdisciplinary collaboration?) but in the rush of the question stampede I didn’t get a really clear answer. سألت نفس السؤال التخصصات من الشمبانيا التي كنت قد الوراء في اذار / مارس (متاعب مع الكبار (الممتاز أقسام العلوم منع التعاون بين التخصصات؟) ولكن في الاندفاع للمسألة الاندفاع انني لم احصل على اجابة واضحة حقا. To conclude, Mike Maruca asked a ridiculous question about the problem of “ego” and “arrogance” among students at these top schools. وختاما ، سأل مايك maruca سمجه وردا على سؤال حول مشكلة "الانا" و "غطرسه" بين الطلاب في هذه المدارس العليا.
