Posted by Sam Jackson as Admissions, College, odd & fun, personal
So at 4:25 today I called my golden retriever (not bulldog) Cozmo over to me, for support, and loaded up Yale.edu/Admit … and, as the headline suggests, I had AWESOME news. The past few days have been the most nerve wracking and stressful time of my entire life. I have a lot more to say about the last few weeks, after Nov 1–the gradual emotional attachment and accompanying stress buildup–but I’ll post more about that later. The relief from the anxiety is fading away and is being replaced by excitement and happiness.
I’m not applying anywhere else, I’m done, but… there is still a lot more to write about. Don’t worry, I’ll still be blogging.
Congratulations to everyone who got early wherever they wanted to go, and best of luck to everyone who didn’t get in EA or ED, everyone else applying regular to wherever you might most hope be.
Another note: After looking at my financial aid info (scary! being middle class isn’t fun for tuition) I would like to restate that my Google AdSense revenue is being directed towards my college tuition. -__-

3Congratulations! Lucky, lucky you, since most of the people I’ve talked to lately (myself included) were deferred. God, the UPenn supplement is miserable. Be glad you aren’t doing it!

6Awesome, Sam, congratulations. I got the good news myself on Thursday - UPenn class of 2011. I was kind of hoping that you had applied to Penn so that I could possibly meet you, though. Still, great news.

10You’ll love college, despite the snow up there. But maybe that’s just a problem for me…
Anyway, be sure to keep this going. I’ve enjoyed reading it so far.

12Hey,
I’m just a random Princeton ‘10er who was curious to see how the Ivy League ED round went this year. I stumbled upon your blog totally by chance. Even if we are technically “enemies” or “rivals” I would like to express my heartiest congratulations! Welcome to the Ivy League buddy!

13Hey! I’m another Yale pre-frosh… just wanted to say congratulations! haha I completely sympathize with everything — the past week was one of the most stressful I’ve ever gone through..the constant anxiety of knowing that your decision has probably already been made but you can’t see it! Looking forward to meeting you next year

15Congratulations! Now that you have had a little time to reflect upon this wonderful news, what do you think it was about you and your application that stood apart from the other applications? You should be very proud… all of your hard work has paid off.

Who is Sam Jackson?
Kind words about my blog:
Andrew Careaga calls it “a service to all of us in the higher ed marketing business.”
Christian Long says it has “dramatically inspired college admissions folks to take notice”
Bob Johnson says “I like [it] because I agree with so much of what he says.” and that “Paying attention what Sam writes will let you focus more closely on students who will actually attend your school.”
Karine Joly says my witty and fresh style “offers a rare glimpse at the mind of our elusive prospective students”
and TargetX calls my blog “good reading” and me “wise-beyond-my-years.”
