Hey all,
Midterms have consumed my life for the last couple weeks, and continue to do so, but as soon as I finish writing some papers I will be taking a train to New York for the College Board forum, where I am doing a little presentation on Saturday! Come visit me if you are there, Matt McGann (of MIT) and I will make sure it’s worth your time. I’m missing the first two days because of classes / other obligations, but hey, fun all the same. Give a call, e-mail, or carrier pigeon and say hello if you’re there. More updates when I get back.

1Ohhhhhhhh, I hit ‘Submit’ on my Yale EA application! Actually, no, I did it about a week ago, but only remembered that you might like to know that. Haha.

2Aww! : )
Definitely sounds like you planned things out a little better than I did, on that account… finishing touches on essay right before they’re due? Not fun, not the best idea. Luckily I was originally told to send it out earlier by mail (but ended up not? weird story) and consequently had some lead time to avoid too much freak out. But yeah. : )

3I actually finished the main essays over the summer, and the past two months have been polishing them, writing the Common App’s short answer on my activities, trying to figure out how to write the “x school is good for me because…” essays.
The easiest one to write had to be the Yale one, even though it was <300 characters.
But o man, FORTY-FIVE DAYS! Haha, sorry about typing that all out in caps. It’s just a crazy feeling to think about Yale. I can’t explain all the feelings. Part of me gets antsy waiting, another freaked hyperventilating, and this other part calm breathing.

4mhm, I understand completely. Sadly a lot of my EA waiting is not as well documented as it could have been because I kept a lot of that under wraps during the application process (and then randomly blogged ‘ta da, I’m going to Yale!’) because I didn’t know what the results would be and didn’t want to alienate or offend other admissions offices that I knew were reading my blog… etc.

5I really enjoy reading this. It reminds me of all the freshman year fun of self-discovery.

Who is Sam Jackson?
Kind words about my blog:
Andrew Careaga calls it “a service to all of us in the higher ed marketing business.”
Christian Long says it has “dramatically inspired college admissions folks to take notice”
Bob Johnson says “I like [it] because I agree with so much of what he says.” and that “Paying attention what Sam writes will let you focus more closely on students who will actually attend your school.”
Karine Joly says my witty and fresh style “offers a rare glimpse at the mind of our elusive prospective students”
and TargetX calls my blog “good reading” and me “wise-beyond-my-years.”
