Two weekends ago I was in New York because I was part of a panel about “Admissions in the Internet Age.” My part was a very compressed summary of my general admissions-internet-teenagers philosophy with some examples of blogs and other online tools which appeal to students and are also great for schools. اثنان قبل عطلة نهاية الاسبوع ، لقد كنت في نيويورك لانني كنت جزءا من الفريق عن "الاعترافات في عصر الانترنت". يخصني كان مضغوط جدا موجز بلادي العام الاعترافات - انترنت - المراهقون الفلسفه مع بعض الامثله علي بلوق وغيرها من الأدوات التي الانترنت نداء الى طلاب وكبيرة أيضا للمدارس. I said I would try to talk about “bridging the gap” between students and admissions offices / counselors where the internet is concerned. قلت انني سيحاول الحديث عن "سد الفجوه" بين الطلبة والقبول في المكاتب / المستشارين الانترنت فيها المعنية. There were a lot of great questions afterwards and the panel as a whole did a really good job; I could praise my co-panelists for ages but instead I’ll just move on and talk about my reactions… to the audience reactions? كان هناك الكثير من الاسءله الكبيرة بعد ذلك والفريق ككل لم الحقيقي هو عمل جيد ؛ استطع المديح بلدي المشترك لاعضاء اللجنة ولكن بدلا من الاعمار انا فقط على التحرك والحديث عن بلادي ردود الفعل… لردود فعل الجمهور؟

I’m very much happier with how a lot of the higher education landscape looks now for uptake of blogs and new media (as well as integration with other tools familiar with my generation) compared with what it was even just a year ago. انا اسعد كثيرا كيف مع الكثير من المناظر الطبيعيه التعليم العالي ويتطلع الان لامتصاص بلوق وسائط الإعلام الجديدة (فضلا عن الاندماج مع غيرها من الادوات المالوفه مع ابناء جيلي) بالمقارنة مع ما كان عليه حتى قبل عام واحد فقط. I’m not saying things are great, or even good, but there’sa very definite measured improvement in attitudes institutionally from what I could smell in the wind. انا لا أقول ان الامور العظيمة ، او حتى جيدة ، ولكن واضح جدا أن هناك قياس التحسن في مؤسسيا من المواقف ما استطيع رائحة في الريح. People were very interested in what I had to say, and not just in the way the monacle and tophat crowd are interested when they go to a zoo or circus. الناس مهتمة جدا في ما كان لي أن أقول ، وليس فقط في الطريقة التي monacle وtophat الحشد مهتمون عندما يذهبون الى حديقة الحيوان او السيرك.

For ease of digestion, I’ve made a list of some of my feelings (nine of them, to be exact) for your consumption: لسهولة الهضم ، ولقد اجريت قائمة ببعض مشاعري (تسعة منهم ، على وجه الدقه) من اجل الاستهلاك الخاص بك :

Reasons for Optimism: اسباب للتفاؤل :

1. More people from more places are interested in adopting new tools in new ways to reach students and connect. اكثر من الناس مهتمون أكثر الأماكن في اعتماد وسائل جديدة في طرق جديدة للوصول الى الطلاب وربط.
2. The people who “get it” are less trapped from above than they have been in the past. الناس الذين "نحصل عليها" هي أقل من المحاصرين أعلاه مما كانت عليه في الماضي.
3. Continuing pressure to reform admissions (ha, ha) and admit students will keep driving adoption. الضغط المستمر لاصلاح الاعترافات (ها ، ها) وقبول الطلاب وسيبقى اعتماد القيادة.
4. There are more good examples every year, more success stories! وهناك المزيد من الامثله الجيدة في كل عام ، اكثر قصص النجاح! People are, at the least, trying. الناس ، على الاقل ، يحاول.
5. My message resonates! رسالتي يرن! Students and a random cross-section of the higher education community can and sometimes do speak the same language! الطلاب وعشوائي شريحة من المجتمع التعليم العالي ويمكن احيانا أن تفعل يتكلمون نفس اللغة!

Reasons for hair-pulling frustration: اسباب الشعر - سحب الاحباط :

1. Too little, too slow, too late–too conservative generally! قليلة جدا وبطيءه جدا ومتأخرا جدا - جدا المحافظ عموما! Too little to achieve the full effect in many cases of adoption, too slow and too late to help out a lot of students today , and too conservative generally for reasons obvious to longtime readers of the blog. القليل جدا لتحقيق التأثير الكامل في كثير من الحالات للاعتماد ، بطيء جدا ومتأخرا جدا للمساعدة على التوصل إلى الكثير من الطلاب اليوم ، وأيضا المحافظة عموما لاسباب واضحة للقارئ قديم للبلوق.
2. Wrong perspectives guiding misconceptions: people continue to misconstrue blogs, social networking, etc in context of old techniques. الخطأ المنظورات توجيه المفاهيم الخاطئة : لا يزال الشعب اسئ فهم بلوق ، والتواصل الاجتماعي ، الخ في سياق التقنيات القديمة. This is wrong and will only end in disaster! وهذا خطأ وسوف فقط في نهاية الكارثة!
3. Risk-avoidance leads to counterproductive behaviors which undermine the success of institutional efforts to move forward! - تجنب خطر يؤدي الى نتائج عكسيه السلوك التي تقوض نجاح الجهود المءسسيه للتحرك الى الامام!
4. More people and schools need more exposure to more good examples! اكثر الناس حاجة الى المزيد من المدارس والتعرض لمزيد من الامثله الجيدة! There is nothing to be (too) afraid about and there are examples to show as much. وليس هناك شيء ليكون (أيضا) عن وخائف وهناك امثلة لاظهار اكبر قدر.

So those are just a few feelings I wanted to share from some of my inferences talking to people. حتى تلك هي مجرد عدد قليل مشاعر اردت حصة من بعض الاستدلالات بلادي يتحدث الى الناس. But, on the whole, I was filled with happy fuzzy feelings, not despairing sad ones. ولكن ، على وجه العموم ، كنت سعيدة مليءه مشاعر مبهمه ، لا اليءس الحزينة منها. Even if some people still had more catching up to do there were a lot who were very eager to get cracking on some new projects. وحتى لو كان بعض الناس لا يزال اكثر اللحاق بالركب القيام كان هناك الكثير الذين كانت حريصة جدا على الحصول على الانشقاق عن بعض المشاريع الجديدة.
