There were a fair number of Yale Daily News stories last semester about various incidents of news-worthy intolerance; this sad trend seems to have continued this term with the “ كان هناك عدد لا باس به من قصص ييل ديلى نيوز الفصل الدراسي الماضي عن حوادث متفرقه - من أخبار جديره التعصب ؛ حزينة هذا الاتجاه يبدو انه قد واصل هذا المصطلح مع " We Love Yale Sluts نحب ييل الفاسقات ” debacle where, for those unfamiliar, a group of Zeta Psi fraternity pledges posted photos on Facebook of themselves holding a sign with that moniker outside the Yale Women’s Center, causing quite a few problems for themselves and quite a lot of talk on campus. "كارثه فيها ، لأولئك غير مألوف ، ومجموعة من الأخوة المبادرة زيتا تعهدات تنشر صور عن facebook من انفسهم بعقد مع توقع ان الاسم الشخصي او الاسم المستعار خارج مركز ييل للمرأة ، مما تسبب في عدد غير قليل من المشاكل لانفسهم تماما ، والكثير من الحديث عن الحرم .

I received an e-mail this evening from one of the Yale mailing lists I’m on with this disturbing message: لقد تلقيت بالبريد الالكتروني من مساء اليوم واحدة من ييل القوائم البريديه انا مع هذا الانزعاج الرسالة :

Dear friends, اصدقائي الاعزاء ،
I am writing to let you know that, on Friday night, some of my close friends discovered a swastika and the “SS” symbol written in packed snow on a tree on Old Campus. إنني أكتب اليكم لنعلمك انه ، ليلة الجمعة ، وبعض من اصدقائه المقربين بلدي واكتشفت والصليب المعقوف "س س" الرمز المكتوب في معباه الثلج على شجرة على الحرم الجامعي القديم. The Yale Police were notified and the graffiti was removed, but I think it behooves us all to not let this disturbing event go unnoticed. ييل وتم ابلاغ الشرطة ، وازيلت الشعارات ، ولكن اعتقد انه يتوجب علينا جميعا ان لا ندع هذه المناسبه تمر دون ان يلحظها احد مزعجه. It is shocking for these kinds of hateful images to appear anywhere, but it is even more disturbing when it is within the locked gates of Old Campus. ومن المروع لهذه الانواع من الصور المقيته لتظهر في اي مكان ، ولكن ما هو اكثر اثارة للقلق عند ومن ضمن مغلق بوابات الحرم القديمة. I don’t think anyone can even speculate as to who did this, but we should be loud and insistent that it is completely intolerable. لا اعتقد ان اي شخص يستطيع حتى مضاربة على النحو الذي فعل هذا ، ولكن ينبغي ان نكون وبصوت عال ويصر على أنه لا يطاق تماما.
Pictures of the tree were taken as evidence, and I’ve attached them below. صور من شجرة اخذت كدليل ، وانا كنت منهم المرفقه ادناه. May this be the last hateful image we have to see on our campus. قد تكون هذه آخر صورة ومكروهه وعلينا ان نرى ونحن على الحرم.

I will try to write more about this and the other sad events sometime soon–it’s an issue that I have really wanted to address, and has really been on my mind in the last couple of days in general. سأحاول أن أكتب المزيد عن هذه وغيرها من الأحداث المحزنه احيانا قريبا - انها مسألة أن أكون قد يريدون حقا الى معالجة ، ولقد كان حقا على خاطري في خلال اليومين الماضيين في العام. For now I just wanted to get the word out about what happened, to initiate discussions about it. الآن لانني اردت فقط للحصول على كلمة من أصل نحو ما حدث ، لبدء مناقشات حول هذا الموضوع.

Dear Yale College Students: عزيزي طلاب كلية ييل :

Over the weekend students and others forwarded to the Yale College Dean’s Office photographs of trees on the Old Campus on which a swastika and other Nazi symbols appeared. خلال عطلة نهاية الاسبوع والطلاب وغيرهم احالتها الى عميدة لكلية ييل مكتب صور الاشجار القديمة على الحرم الجامعي الذي وضع الصليب المعقوف وغيره من الرموز النازية يبدو. This disturbing incident is not the first aimed at specific groups of students on our campus this academic year. هذه الحادثه ليست مقلقه الاولى التي تستهدف مجموعات معينة من الطلاب عن الحرم الجامعي لدينا هذا العام الدراسي. As you are well aware, in recent months students have discovered racist and homophobic graffiti spray-painted on University walls, and a group of individuals held a sign containing a sexist slogan in front of the Women’s Center. وكما تعلمون جيدا ، في الاشهر الاخيرة قد اكتشف طلاب homophobic الشعارات العنصريه والرذاذ - يرسم على جدران الجامعة ، ومجموعة من الافراد الذين تحتجزهم علامة تتضمن شعار جنسي في الجبهة من مركز المراه.

Even on a campus committed to freedom of expression, acts such as these are offensive and corrode the spirit of community so cherished at Yale. حتى وان كان ذلك على الحرم التي ارتكبت في حرية التعبير ، ومثل هذه الافعال هي الهجوميه وتصدا روح المجتمع بحيث العزيزه في ييل. We do not know who is responsible for some of these offensive acts, but I implore all members of our community to consider the impact of words and actions on others and to treat each other with dignity and respect. ولا ندري من هو المسؤول عن بعض هذه الاعمال الهجوميه ، ولكن أناشد جميع أعضاء جماعتنا الى النظر في أثر الكلمات والافعال على الآخرين وعلى ان يعاملوا بعضهم بعضا بكرامه واحترام.

If you become aware of incidents such as those described above, report them to the Yale University Police, who will investigate whether a crime has been committed and, if so, will attempt to identify the perpetrator. اذا كنت ادرك حوادث مثل تلك المشار اليها اعلاه ، وتقديم تقرير عنها الى جامعة ييل الشرطة ، الذي ستتولى التحقيق في ما اذا كانت الجريمة قد ارتكبت ، وان كان الامر كذلك ، وسوف نحاول تحديد الجاني. You should also contact your college master or dean and Marichal Gentry, the Dean of Student Affairs, who convened a committee last semester that developed a protocol guiding our response to such incidents. يجب عليك ايضا الاتصال الخاصة بك او عميد كلية ماستر marichal وطبقة النبلاء ، عميد شؤون الطلاب ، الذى عقدته لجنة الفصل الدراسي الماضي ان وضع بروتوكول توجيه ردنا على مثل هذه الحوادث.

My colleagues and I join with others on campus in condemning these deplorable acts. زملائي وانا اشارك الآخرين في الحرم الجامعي في ادانة هذه الاعمال المءسفه.

Many of you no doubt already know that several Nazi symbols were pasted in snow on Old Campus trees this past Friday evening.  We condemn in the strongest possible terms both this act and the ideology it stands for. كثيرون منكم لا شك نعلم بالفعل ان العديد من الرموز النازية كانت بلصق في الثلج على هذه الاشجار القديمة الحرم مساء الجمعة الماضي. ندين باقوي العبارات الممكنة هذا القانون على حد سواء وايديولوجيه ترمز اليه. This isolated incident is not representative of any wider anti-Semitic trends or overtones within the Yale community. هذه ليست حادثة منعزلة ممثل آية اوسع الاتجاهات المعاديه للسامية أو المعاني الاضافيه داخل المجتمع ييل. That said, there are also other groups at Yale who have been and continue to be hurt and marginalized both by hate speech and other types of unacceptable behavior.  We are unequivocally opposed to all such acts of hatred.  Students wishing to talk about these recent events or with any questions or concerns should not hesitate to contact either board or staff members. وقال ان هناك أيضا مجموعات أخرى في جامعة ييل والذي قد يستمر الى ان تؤذي والمهمشه سواء عن طريق خطاب الكراهية وانواع اخرى من السلوك غير المقبول. ونحن نعارض بشكل قاطع جميع هذه الافعال من الكراهية. الطلبة الراغبين في الحديث عن هذه الأحداث الأخيرة او مع اية اسءله او استفسارات ينبغي الا تترددوا في الاتصال اما اعضاء المجلس او الموظفين.
