I decided it might be instructive to take a moment to talk about the courses that I am taking. قررت انه قد يكون من المفيد اخذ لحظة لنتحدث عن الدورات التي أتناول فيها. My Description : Jonathan Schell is a noted author on the subjects of nonviolence and nuclear arms-related isuses; he teaches another course, “Dilemmas of the Nuclear Age.” He notes the link between the two for it was in 1906 that the first nonviolent movement spontaneously came into existence, and in 1905 Einstein gave us E=mc^2 ; nonviolence and the beginnings of the nuclear era were both coincident. بلدي الوصف : جوناثان شيل هو لاحظ المؤلف على مواضيع واللاعنف والمتصله بالاسلحه النووية isuses ؛ آخر وقال انه يعلم بطبيعة الحال ، "معضلات العصر النووي" ، من دون ان يلاحظ العلاقة بين الاثنين لانه في عام 1906 ان الاولى غير العنيفه حركة عفويه الى حيز الوجود ، واينشتاين في عام 1905 قدم لنا المنهج النموذجي ^ ة = 2 ؛ اللاعنف وبدايات العصر النووي على حد سواء متوافق. Professor Schell writes regularly for The Nation, Harpers, The New Yorker, and other magazines; it was cool to go to the bookstore and see my Professor had an article just staring out at me from some of my favorite magazines, but the real delight in taking this course has been the excellent knowledge and background which he brings to the seminar. استاذ شيل يكتب بانتظام للأمة ، عازفو القيثاره ، يوركر الجديدة ، وغيرها من المجلات ؛ كان باردا على الذهاب الى المكتبه وأرى وكان استاذ مادة فقط من اصل التحديق في لي من بعض المجلات المفضلة ، ولكن فرحة حقيقية اخذ هذا بطبيعة الحال كانت ممتازة والمعارف والمعلومات الأساسية التي يأتي بها الى الحلقه الدراسيه. A lively discussion and interesting readings make for a great class. مناقشة حية ومثيرة للاهتمام لتقديم قراءات درجة كبيرة. The upcoming 20 page final paper is a little bit daunting, but because seniors in classes spring semester before they graduate are incredibly lazy about doing readings or work (senior theses included!) I’m not at such a terrible disadvantage. الصفحه 20 المقبلة هي الورقه الاخيرة التي قليلا شاقة ، ولكن نظرا لفئات الكبار في الفصل الدراسى فى الربيع قبل ان تخرج هي كسوله لا يصدق عن العمل او القيام قراءات (كبار الاطروحات وشملت!) انا لست في مثل هذا الحرمان الرهيب.

EPE 353, Boris Kapustin : Critique of Political Violence Epe 353 ، بوريس kapustin : نقد للعنف السياسي

Course Description: A study of methods of conceptualizing political violence that are prevalent in contemporary political philosophical discourse. وبطبيعة الحال الوصف : دراسة عن تصور أساليب العنف السياسي التي كانت سائدة في الخطاب الفلسفي السياسي المعاصر. Use of theoretical-analytical tools to examine the modes violence assumes and the functions it performs in modern political life as well as the meanings and possibilities of nonviolence in politics. - استخدام الادوات التحليليه والنظريه لدراسة وسائل العنف ويفترض والمهام التي تؤديها في الحياة السياسية الحديثة ، فضلا عن احتمالات المعاني واللاعنف في العمل السياسي.

This seminar is an advanced introduction to contemporary political-philosophical debates over the concept of violence and its role in politics. هذه الحلقه الدراسيه هو مقدمة لمتقدمة السياسية - الفلسفيه المعاصرة المناقشات حول مفهوم العنف ودورها في السياسة. We will focus, in particular but not exclusively, on the existentialist, post-structuralist, neo-Marxist, and “critical-rationalist” approaches to violence. وسوف نركز بصفة خاصة ولكن ليس حصرا ، على الوجودي ، في مرحلة ما بعد البنيوي ، من المحافظين الجدد الماركسي ، و "الحرجه عقلاني" نهج العنف. My Description: This course can be pretty intense intellectually at times, with some very tough concepts and readings. بلدي الوصف : هذا بالطبع يمكن ان تكون جميلة مكثفة فكريا في بعض الاحيان ، مع بظروف صعبة جدا لبعض المفاهيم والقراءات. However, it proves incredibly enjoyable even if it does make my brain hurt fort a while afterwards some classes (it is a once weekly, 2 hour seminar). ومع ذلك ، اثبت بشكل ممتع حتى لو كانت تؤذي الدماغ اجعل فورت لبعض الوقت بعد ذلك بعض الفئات (وهو مرة واحدة اسبوعيا ، 2 ساعة الحلقه الدراسيه). SOCY 015, Socy 015 ، Hannah Brückner هانا brückner : Social Relations and Society : العلاقات الاجتماعية والمجتمع

Course Description: A study of how social roles and social status are constituted by social relations in everyday life; how boundaries between groups of people are constructed and maintained; and how group membership structures the opportunities and well-being of individuals. وبطبيعة الحال الوصف : دراسة كيفية الادوار الاجتماعية والمركز الاجتماعي وتتألف من خلال العلاقات الاجتماعية في الحياة اليوميه ؛ كيف الحدود بين مجموعات من الناس بنائها وصيانتها ، وكيفية الانتماء الى جماعة وهياكل الفرص ورفاه الافراد. Consideration of the conditions under which individuals and groups engage in collective action and the resulting characteristics of contemporary societies. النظر في الشروط التي بموجبها الأفراد والمجموعات المشاركة في العمل الجماعي والخصائص الناتجة للمجتمعات المعاصرة.

My Description: This course can be a little slow in class, in part perhaps because it is at 9:25 on a Thursday morning for two hours. بلدي الوصف : هذا بالطبع يمكن ان تكون بطيءه قليلا في الدرجة ، في جزء منه ربما لأنه في 9:25 من صباح اليوم الخميس على لمدة ساعتين. Our class shrank from a start of near 20 students to now something like 6 in the final weeks, as people realized it was either more work (for a WR credit, among other things) or less exciting than they had first imagined. تقلصت الطبقة لدينا بداية من 20 طالبا من بالقرب من الآن الى ما يشبه 6 في الاسابيع الاخيرة ، كما انه ادرك الناس اما الى مزيد من العمل (لWR الائتمان ، من بين أمور أخرى) أو أقل إثارة مما كانت عليه أول تصوره. The readings here are FANTASTIC: a really exciting collection of amazing journal articles and other sources. القراءات هنا رائع : جمع مثيرة حقا مذهله والمقالات العلميه ومصادر اخرى. In class, things can be less exciting when we go over the material. في الدرجة ، امور يمكن ان تكون اقل إثارة عندما نذهب اكثر من مادة. Professor is the Director of Undergraduate Studies for Sociology. هو استاذ ومدير الدراسات لعلم الاجتماع.

EVST 245, Evst 245 ، Benjamin Cashore بنيامين cashore : International Environmental Policy and Governance Course Description: The emergence of global-scale environmental challenges, environmental diplomacy, and global environmental governance. : السياسات البيءيه الدولية والحكم بطبيعة الحال الوصف : ظهور عالمي النطاق للتحديات البيءيه ، الدبلوماسية البيءيه ، والادارة البيءيه العالمية. Particular attention to the linked issues of climate change, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and desertification, and to the interplay of science and politics in framing policy responses to these issues. إيلاء اهتمام خاص لربط قضايا تغير المناخ وإزالة الغابات وفقدان التنوع البيولوجي ، والتصحر ، والى التفاعل بين العلم والسياسة في صياغه استجابات السياسات العامة لهذه القضايا.

My Description: EVST 245 is a fun course which the professor describes as first “very depressing” as we learn about all the problems and then “very optimistic!” as we learn about ways that we might work to solve them. بلدي الوصف : evst 245 هو المرح وبطبيعة الحال الذي وصفه الاستاذ الاول "كءيبه جدا" كما نعلم عن جميع المشاكل وبعد ذلك "متفائل جدا"! كما نعلم عن سبل يمكن لنا ان العمل على ايجاد حل لها. Interestingly covering things from the prof’s political science background, the team of Cashore and Graeme Auld, our excellent TA, makes for a lot of fun. ومن المثير للتغطية أمور من استاذ في العلوم السياسية ، وفريق من cashore غرايم auld ، ونحن الممتاز تا ، ليجعل الكثير من المرح. It’sa very intimate lecture and it is very interactive, if sometimes a little bit off-subject. It'sa محاضرة جدا وحميمه جدا ومن التفاعلية ، واذا كان في بعض الاحيان قليلا خارج الموضوع. FR 139, Diane Charney: Advanced Language Practice II (L5) 139 الاب ، ديان Charney : لغة متقدمة الممارسه الثاني (15)

Course Description: An advanced language course intended to improve students? وبطبيعة الحال الوصف : دورة اللغة متقدمة لتحسين الطلاب؟ comprehension of spoken and written French as well as their speaking and writing skills. الذين يشكون من الفرنسية تحدثا وكتابة وكذلك تحدث والكتابة. Modern fiction and nonfiction texts familiarize students with idiomatic French. لا قصصي رواءيه حديثة وتعريف الطلاب مع النصوص الفرنسية تعبيري. Emphasis on oral practice through debates and presentations on current events. التركيز على الممارسه الشفويه من خلال المناقشات والعروض على الاحداث الجاريه.

My Description: This course is in an uncomfortable spot: It’s the last “review-type” course in French before you get to things like FR150, “Conversational Practice” or other pure French literature courses. بلدي الوصف : هذا بطبيعة الحال هو غير مريحه في بقعة : انه آخر "استعراض من نوع" بطبيعة الحال في الفرنسية قبل ان تحصل على أشياء مثل fr150 ، "المحادثة الممارسه" او غيرها من الدورات نقيه الادب الفرنسي. This course has a mix of films, short stories, and literature (all of it very sad, depressing, and French) but on top of that it also has tons and tons of grammar for review which is tested regularly. وهذا بطبيعة الحال مزيج من أفلام ، قصص قصيرة ، والادب (كل من هو حزين جدا ، والاكتئاب ، والفرنسية) ولكن وعلاوة على ذلك كما ان لديها وطن طن من قواعد للاستعراض الذي يتم اختباره بشكل منتظم. This, combined with a 3-times-a-week schedule (even if only for 50 minutes) can make it pretty grueling at times. هذا ، بالاضافة الى 3 مرات في الاسبوع - أ - الجدول الزمني (حتى لو كان فقط لمدة 50 دقيقة) يمكن ان تجعل من جميلة القسوه في بعض الاحيان. This is somewhat made up for by our really, really nice professor, who is charming and fun and a delight to have. وهذا هو الى حد ما يتكون لدينا من قبل حقا ، جميلة استاذ ، وهو السحر والمرح والسرور ان يكون. Sadly, this course only gives 1 credit, though it takes a lot of time to do all of the work. ومن المحزن ان هذا بطبيعة الحال يعطي سوى 1 الائتمان ، وعلى الرغم من انه يأخذ الكثير من الوقت للقيام بكل ما من عمل.
